Comedians

My comedy is about family, specifically my family. As the White, Jewish husband of a Black woman (who converted to Judaism) and the father of a 2-year-old, Biracial son, I focus my attention on the challenges of being a parent in a bad economy and the issues that confront interracial families (including the dynamics between members of the same family who are of different races). In the Age of Obama, my material is very timely, relevant, and (if I may say so myself) hilarious. I was born in Brooklyn and was quickly deported to Long Island, where my parents raised me in an overprotective shell. After peaking academically in high school, I meandered through an Ivy League college, law school, and a legal career only to realize that my true gift was in making fun of the law, as well as my neuroses, my raging hypochondria, my height (or lack thereof), and the challenges of being a new dad, which includes the public acknowledgment that I am no longer in the running to be the latest James Bond (even if they decide to go with a James Bond who’s a short Jewish guy). Although I left the law to pursue a comedy career, I’ve kept a foot in the legal world. I’m a member of Comedians at Law (www.comediansatlaw.com), a group of comics who all left the law (voluntarily, or, like me, a little less voluntarily) to pursue our dream. I’ve performed at clubs, colleges, and venues throughout the country. I’ve been featured on Sirius/XM Radio’s “Raw Dog Comedy,” NBC’s EVB Live, Bloomberg Law TV, ComedyTime TV, RT TV America, and NYC-TV, and in The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, and CNN.com. I won the 12th Annual Gilda’s Club (Northern NJ) Laugh-Off. I’m also a writer. I wrote a series of columns about my comedy career in a regularly-occurring column in The New York Daily News “Money” section. I wrote a monthly humor column for the online webzine The Coil Review (www.thecoilreview.com), and I’m a regular contributor to The Comic Bible. In addition, my comedic short story “Lola’s Christmas Gift” was published in the 2008 issue of the literary journal The Westchester Review.

Joe Larson is a second-generation comedian. Much to his parent’s dismay at the age of twenty, Joe went into the family business. Just as comedy was taking off big time, Joe became a father, giving him a new level of comfort in his role on stage and screen. Unconventional as always, Joe didn’t take on the traditional role of dad but rather he says he is simply a “man with a baby”. He is currently lending his Man With A Baby voice as writer and actor on the hit show Babies Behaving Badly on Discovery Family, TLC and Discovery UK. Joe has also been seen on Gotham Comedy Live, NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Laughs on FOX, The Tonight Show’s “Laugh Squad” and the Speed Channel. A native of Brooklyn New York and the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Christian discovered at an early age that being funny was a way to get people to like you and “not want to beat you up.” This was enough motivation for him to pursue comedy. Christian’s comedic style has been greatly influenced by such comedians as George Carlin, Conan O’Brien and Chris Rock. While honing his skills in clubs all over New York City, Christian also performs all around the country as well, and has even had the opportunity to perform in Canada and the UK. Recently, he was a part of a comedy bike tour across Ohio where he rode 400 miles across the state and performed 8 shows along the way. He is not a trained cyclist, so his love for comedy is the only thing that carried him along on this very ill-advised endeavor. Outside of being a stand-up comedian, Christian also does a fair amount of acting, writing and improv. He is currently the head writer for an online talk show called “Metro Section,” where he performs on the show as well. Christian has also hosted a popular podcast called “Offstage w/ Christian Polanco”, where he interviewed other comedians about how they handled dating and relationships. Christian Polanco is definitely a young rising star in the entertainment industry and is headed for great things. With his natural ability to simply “be funny,” he will be making people around the world laugh for years to come.
