Fizz & Ginger

Composer/Conductor Whitney George and Librettist/Stage Director Bea Goodwin are back after their critically acclaimed opera Princess Maleine (2019) and radio drama tryptic In the Throes of Death (2020-23). Fizz & Ginger, a jazz musical for a new age, features members and friends of The Curiosity Cabinet who will ensure you have a roaring time in the era of bathtub gin and late night debauchery in the New York Comedy Club turned speak-easy: we’ll meet you at The Crossroads!

Fizz & Ginger traces the steps of the 1920s New Yorker nightlife reviewer, Lipstick (Sarah Goldrainer), as she enters a party in pursuit of a story. Hot on the heels of her rum-running boyfriend Benny (Shane Brown), she finds him at The Crossroads, an underground speakeasy, mixed with company she’s never seen before. Old Tom Bullock (Kyle Oliver) is in town slinging drinks fresh out of his cocktail book while Marjorie (Francesca Federico) croons the tunes of a lover lost to the Great War. Nellie, (MaKayla McDonald) a writer for Harlem’s The Messenger magazine, is there to support her Bohemian best friend Bruce (Francisco Corredor) who is necking with a man he shouldn’t be in cahoots with. This ensemble of six singers supported by a live jazz combo, pays homage to Lipstick’s reviews from the New Yorker archives.

*please note, our speakeasy requires an $18 drink minimum the evening of the performance
where you will be served authentic 1920s cocktails or mocktails curated for Fizz & Ginger.
